Fiberglass Insulation Materials for Steel Buildings
Steel building insulation materials are designed to improve the insulation of a building while reducing thermal energy or heat loss. A thermal facing or reflective surface called a vapor retarder or radiant barrier is added to the insulating fiberglass material to reduce the transfer of heat through radiation as well as conduction. Facing materials that are applied to the insulating fiberglass blankets also serve as a protected cover over the fiberglass insulation. Facing materials offers a clean finished look to any metal building environment.
The fiberglass blanket thickness and measurement of the effectiveness to prevent the loss of heat flow is referred to as the R-value. When calculating the R-value of a multilayered insulation system, you should add the R-values of the individual layers. Adding more insulation layers in your steel building increases the R-value overall.
Remember that it is very important to properly install your insulation to achieve the maximum R-value. The amount of insulation or R-value needed depends on the climate, type of heating and cooling system, and the section of the building you plan to insulate. You can view recommended r-value measurements for your area at Energy Star’s Website.
Selection & proper installation of fiberglass insulation systems and the increases in energy efficiency requirements is a key component in the value delivered in a steel building.
